Leading the Pack
Stories from Israel’s Elite K-9 Unit

“The Ones Who Lead”
Written by Lia Lahavi and Yakir Hajaj, both esteemed veterans of Israel’s elite Oketz K-9 Unit, Leading the Pack was brought to life through the vision and dedication of the Oketz Foundation in Israel.
Currently available in Hebrew, the book is now on a path toward an English edition.
Leading the Pack is a powerful collection of firsthand stories from Israel’s elite K-9 Unit, told by the soldiers and commanders who lived them. Through moments of leadership, fear, responsibility, and resilience, the book offers an intimate look into service beyond the battlefield — and the human bonds formed when it matters most.
The book brings together voices from Israel’s Oketz Unit, sharing personal experiences from training, combat zones, and life after service.
These stories reflect the realities faced by soldiers and their canine partners and the responsibility that continues long after the uniform comes off.
Written by veterans and commanders of the IDF’s Oketz Unit, in collaboration with Amuta Ha’Holchim Barosh (“Leading the Pack”).
